Guess How Much Nicki Minaj, Who Retracted Her Retirement Statement, Earned Last Year

When Nicki Minaj announced that she was retiring in September, everyone was confused and her fans went wild. Is this for real or just a hoax? The Super Bass rapper simply said that she’s going to have a family and that she loves her fans dearly. She, later on, clarified the statement, saying she was not going anywhere and apologized for the abrupt words.

Proof that she is far from being over music is her rumored collaboration with Adele that Nicki, who has an $85-million net worth, spilled recently despite being told by the English singer not to share details about their work. But assuming that she did retire from the industry to settle down, there’s no problem with that because the rapper, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj, had an impressive take-home pay from last year.

Among the List of Highest-Paid

Nicki is one of the highest-paid hip-hop stars with $20 million, becoming one of the two women who joined the male-dominated list — the other high-earner is Cardi B, the youngest among the bunch. Kanye West holds the top spot with $150 million, followed by Jay-Z who holds the spot with $81 million. Trailing behind were Drake Travis Scott, Diddy, Eminem, DJ Khaled, Kendrick Lamar, Migos, Childish Gambino, and J. Cole.

Along with Nicki Minaj, Cardi B made it to the list of the highest-paid hip-hop artist

While she was born in Trinidad and Tobago on Dec. 8, 1982, Nicki grew up in Queens, New York. She had released three mixtapes starting 2007, namely, Playtime Is Over, Beam Me Up Scotty, and Sucka Free, but it wasn’t until 2009 when her name was thrust to the mainstream spotlight. She signed with Young Money Entertainment after she was discovered by Lil Wayne, and by 2010, Pink Friday, her first studio album, was released.

Works in the Past Years

Her success continued two years later when she released her second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. In 2013, Nicki joined the star-studded panel of the American Idol, where she allegedly went home with a $12-million paycheck. She released Pinkprint in 2014 while her fourth album called Queen saw light in 2018.

Nicki Minaj appeared in The Other Woman

Apart from her impressive musical portfolio, Nicki has also dipped her toes into acting. Alongside other big stars like Leslie Mann, Cameron Diaz, and Kate Upton, the Anaconda hitmaker appeared in the 2014 film The Other Woman, which earned a whopping $196 million globally. Two years later, she joined the cast of Barbershop: The Next Cut.

Her works aren’t unnoticed as well. Under Nicki’s belt are prestigious trophies from the People’s Choice Awards, American Music Awards, BET Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards. She also got many Grammy nods.

Love Life?

Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty started dating in December 2018

Nicki previously said that she was retiring because she wanted to start a family. Days before the announcement, rumors sparked that she was pregnant. Speculations that she was also engaged with boyfriend Kenneth “Zoo” Petty circulated, much to the dismay of the musician’s fans. When they started dating in December last year, her supporters were quick to slam their idol’s new man. But the singer just brushed the harsh comments.
