Elon Musk Envisions an ‘Age of Abundance’ Where Robots Make Work Optional
Elon Musk, the tech mogul behind Tesla and SpaceX, is once again pushing the limits of imagination. This time, the world’s richest man says society is on the edge of something huge, a shift that could change daily life for everyone. His focus is the Optimus humanoid robot, a project he calls the biggest product of all time.
The Tesla boss says the rise of Optimus will rewrite the rules of the global economy. He believes the United States and the rest of the world will feel the impact once these machines move from the lab into homes, businesses, and hospitals. Production is already underway.
Tesla expects the first wave of Optimus units to appear inside its own factories soon.

GTN / Musk describes Optimus as a turning point in human history. He says these robots will handle physical labor with speed, accuracy, and reliability far beyond what any person can deliver.
In his view, this does not push people aside. It frees them. The world’s richest man imagines a world where machines handle the heavy work, and humans focus on creativity, family, and personal growth. It sounds ambitious, but ambition drives most of Musk’s biggest wins.
The Tesla boss also discusses the broader implications. He believes robotics will help the world escape the limits of today’s labor system. Companies will be able to scale without worrying about worker shortages or rising costs. Musk argues that economic growth will explode once robots fill the gaps.
Technology as a Tool to Erase Poverty
One of Musk’s boldest claims is that Optimus could eventually eliminate poverty. He says social struggles tied to labor shortages and high costs will fade once robots take on essential tasks. If machines can create more goods at lower prices, people gain access to better living standards without extra stress. Musk sees this as a direct path to a fairer world.
Healthcare sits at the heart of this transformation. Musk has stated that high-quality medical care for everyone will only be possible once advanced AI and robotics are integrated into the system. He envisions robots performing surgery with unmatched precision, lowering medical errors, and freeing doctors to focus on specialized care. In his view, Optimus will help create a healthier, longer living population.
Musk Envisions an Economy Supercharged by AI
Musk’s economic predictions reach far beyond typical forecasts. He says AI and robotics could grow the global economy by a factor of ten or even one hundred. He believes there is no obvious limit to what this kind of automation can produce. At one point, he even called Optimus an infinite money glitch, meaning productivity could reach levels the world has never seen.

John / Pexels / Musk suggests that the very concept of money might evolve. He envisions a future economy measured in terms of electrical power or wattage, rather than dollars.
To him, this would reflect true production capacity rather than traditional financial models. It is a radical idea, but radical ideas often start new eras.
Musk shared more of this vision during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast. He claimed AI and robotics could make traditional jobs optional. If machines cover most labor, people could choose to work rather than rely on them for survival.
This leads to another prediction, a shift from universal basic income to universal high income. He says this would allow everyone to access products and services without financial worry. Other voices in the tech world, including former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, share similar concerns about the future of work. With millions of jobs potentially replaced by AI, a stronger safety net may become necessary to maintain societal stability.
