How to Make the Most out of Your Job Even If You Absolutely Hate It
If there’s one thing Kylie Jenner has taught us, it’s to follow your dreams. The makeup maven has proved that if you follow your heart and pursue your passion, money and success will land at your feet.
Self-help books have always promoted the same thing and advised to do what you’ve always wanted. However, many people struggling with their careers certainly know that these suggestions are easier said than done.
Even millennials who are known for taking risks and going after what they want are met with obstacles because, let’s face it, what we want to do doesn’t necessarily give us the financial freedom we’re looking for.
As you’ve probably understood by now, the real hardships come once you start looking for work as a fresh college graduate.
Firstly, a lot of people still don’t know what they really want after graduating, so how could they pursue a passion they still haven’t discovered yet?
Secondly, the economy doesn’t always work in favor of your passion. The bills won’t pay themselves, the rent can’t be delayed, and, more importantly, passion alone isn’t enough to feed you, which leads to the fact that sometimes, you just have to endure the 9-to-5 job.
However, there is a brighter side if you hate your current job: you can use this opportunity to learn skills that will be beneficial in finding a better job or choosing a new career path down the line.
Understand When You Feel Excited
We’ve all been there: passing time and wishing your boss doesn’t assign a last-minute task before you head out of the office.
As much as you hate your work, there are still times when you enjoy the things you do and when you don’t notice the time passing.
You can build on your experience and knowledge over time, which can come in handy for your future career.
That doesn’t mean you should ignore the boring bits of your job because you never know when the knowledge might come in handy in the future.
Not doing what you love doesn’t mean you remain stagnant. Chances are, you are confronted with unfamiliar things that usually push you to your limits because if you pursue your passion, you already have an idea of how to do things.
When you are working a job that you don’t necessarily like, you are forced to become creative and skillful in finishing tasks.
Once you managed to come out of a seemingly desperate position, you’ll only feel proud of yourself and you become resilient.
Building a Team
If you don’t find the meaning in your job, then find the drive from the people around you. Regard your team in decision-making.
It is important to be a mentor to others because you can give them purpose and fulfillment.
As a leader, it is up to you to put others into a role they are a fit for, plus, you might discover some talented people from the bunch that could help you grow your business.
Learn from Bad and Good Experiences
Whether you love or hate the job you’re currently in, you’ll experience highs and the lows which are a part of any career you choose.
You may have chosen a path that you feel may not serve your best interest but once you look back, you’ll understand that there were some key takeaways from the experience and how the skills you developed helped you in your undertakings.
