Madonna’s Total Ticket Sales as the Bestselling Touring Artist of All Time Will Knock Your Socks Off
Madonna’s gotten a lot of honorary titles throughout her long and successful career but this time the most apt seems to be The Queen of Pop.
Bow down to the new queen as she finally reaches the top of the highest grossing solo touring artist of all time list booting out fellow legendary musician Bruce Springsteen off his spot.
The Rebel Heart Tour
The 60-year-old Material Girl clinched her crown thanks to the success of her Rebel Heart Tour in 2016.
The seven-month international tour was a promotional stunt for her 13th studio album Rebel Heart and managed to turn in a whopping $169.8 million in sales. The addition of this to her previous nine concert tours sales add up to the $1.31 billion that booted out Springsteen as the highest grossing solo touring artist of all time.
She performed in 82 shows in total with an average ticket sale of $2.1 million each. The tour also saw Madonna break new ground as she performed for the first time in Manila, Hongkong, Macau, Bangkok and Sydney.
Of course, her success wouldn’t be complete without her special celebrity guests like Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Idris Elba and even comedian Amy Schumer who all attracted their own fans to the Queen of Pop’s concerts.
The Slow But Sure Climb to the Top
Madonna’s spot at the top was a product of the singer’s years of hard work.
She first entered the Billboard Boxscore of the bestselling touring solo and group acts in 1990 with the Blond Ambition World Tour which grossed a total of $62.7 million (117.45 million when adjusted to inflation).
The pop superstar will later join the billion-dollar club when her MDNA tour brought her total career-long ticket sales to over $1 billion in 2012.
Though the feat is impressive, it was not that surprising as the singer has been dominating as the most bankable solo female touring artist since 2004.
Other Bestselling Artists on the List
Madonna may be the no.1 artist on the solo act list but she only places third on the overall list of touring acts including group acts.
With $1.84 billion under their belt, rock band The Rolling Stones snags the number one spot while Irish group U2 sits at the second spot with $1.67 billion after more than four decades of performing.
Meanwhile, fellow solo acts Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Bon Jovi follow as the fourth, fifth and sixth on the bestselling list.
