As a 5-year-old child, a truck left her unconscious for many days with a fractured skull hit. She was 12 when she met her late husband, René Angélil. He was smitten by the teenager at first sight so he waited for her to be old enough before they began dating. The relationship led to marriage despite their 26-year age difference.

Angélil signed her to his record label with a condition that her parents should let him manage her career. He mortgaged his home to support Dion build her career and it paid off big time.
