Should You Work More Than One Job? Pros and Cons of Having Multiple Careers
Most people say that one of the most difficult decisions they make in their life is figuring out what career they would like to pursue. There are some who grows up knowing it right away, but others spend years in college trying to figure out what they want to do in life. It can be really tough, but what most people don’t know is that it is possible to pursue more than just one career.
Some people may say that this is easy for those who didn’t have a career that was the same as their passion. People who have jobs for the sake of income, but at the same time pursuing a career that leads them to a path towards what they have always wanted to do. If you are looking into getting a new career without wanting to let go of your current one, then this is definitely something you’ll need to read.
Multiple Careers
Choosing multiple careers can be beneficial for someone who is either working a job they’re not passionate about, someone who has an unpredictable career or those who simply wish to set out on a new path. Now you must be thinking that working for 6-8 hours a day, 7 days a week is already so exhausting, why add another career to it?
This is why having multiple careers is definitely not for everyone, some people have their own personal reasons for choosing not to do so. But for others, it is necessary to have multiple careers since a double source of income can significantly reduce financial stress. It is more like they don’t have a choice but to do it, and if they’re lucky enough to like both of their jobs, then working overtime isn’t all that bad.
Some people also believe that being able to adapt to different areas by having two jobs can make them gain a lot of experience and social skills. However, there are also people who are part of massive industries, such as celebrities and athletes who wouldn’t exactly get as many benefits when they retire compared to others, despite their massive fortune.
They often get into businesses since that is the easiest thing to do with their vast fortunes. It is usually guaranteed that they will instantly get people’s attention, and they already have the money to start it all up. Experts believe that anyone can try pursuing multiple careers, but they will only succeed if they focus on all of the careers they’re trying to get into.
Pros and Cons Of Having More Than One Career
There are, of course, advantages as well as disadvantages of having more than just one career. One of the upsides has got to be the fact that you’ll be able to do something you want as well as something you need. The most common reason people who choose to have a second career is usually to start doing what they have always wanted to do, but life gets in the way and they ended up doing something they’re not passionate about.
Another advantage would be the fact that you’ll be able to learn how convenient it is to manage time. In order to have your life on track while having more than one career, you must know how to balance everything. If you can’t find your rhythm, then you’ll most likely fail at all of your chosen careers. As for the disadvantages, having two or more careers may also set you on a path of self-destruction.
Keep in mind that there are still matters that you must focus on, such as your social life and most of all your own well-being. One way or another, you’ll find times when you need to figure out if it is even worth it, or you may just be wasting your time, since having two or more jobs will definitely give you a difficult time to focus, especially if you are not the beys when it comes to multi-tasking. This is why employers don’t agree on letting some of their people have another career venture because it could definitely affect the overall performance of an employee.
