Reasons Why You’re the Only One Responsible for Expanding Your Career
During your working years, it is common for you to want to expand your career for promotions and better pay down the road. However, most people tend to blame the trials and tribulations they face along the way as reasons to why they have hindrances with their career.
This sought of blame game can cause frustration, and the potential death of one’s hopes and dreams in the long run. That being said, most people fail to realize that they are the ones responsible for how their career goes.
Keeping this in mind, here are five reasons why you are solely responsible for your career path regardless of how bleak and dead it might seem at the moment.
You Might Be Playing It the Long Way
As you know, the average number of years the average American spends in the work arena is about 40 years. However, this might vary by 10 years depending on your financial plans or the position that you hold at the firm you’re employed in.
That being said, what do you aspire to achieve by the end of these working years? Are you looking to leave a legacy at the current firm that you’re in or perhaps venture out and start your own business? Whatever the case might be, it’s up to you to make that decision and adhere to it.
Most people fear the path of entrepreneurship because of financial constraints. There are a lot of risks involved with entrepreneurship, but when they finally manage it, the end results can be worth it.
That being said, whatever path you decide to take, happiness and passion should be at the focal point of your decision making.
Loving Your Purpose
One of the things that you’ll notice about people who love what they do is that they speak passionately about it. They will describe every facet of their career, and will be researching deeply into it during their spare time.
Which begs the question; is your job the kind where you spend hours on end staring at the clock just wishing the day would end? If that’s the case, then you might just be in the wrong career and it might be eating you away one day at a time.
For example, author Simon Sinek explains in his book Start With Why that most individuals and companies can easily state their purpose and business, but don’t seem to remember why they have been, or are doing it in the first place.
Being crystal clear on your purpose enables you to find solutions to the what, where, and why that arise throughout your career.
A Great Career Will Automatically Provide You with More Opportunities
One of the most interesting things about a great career is that it provides individuals with the opportunity to expand their horizon, regardless of whether they started out as the janitor; they might find themselves seated in a boardroom meeting in a few years!
The great thing about a career that you love is that you’ll always put your best foot forward regardless of how complex a task is.
That’s because your talents will always be noticed and in turn, rewarded.
You Will Always Consider and Balance Your Resources
Whenever you hear inspirational stories about individuals that started from the bottom and finally made it to the top, you will notice that all these stories resonate with the fact that most of these individuals had limited resources, but made the best of what they had.
That’s because whenever you’re determined and purposeful about your career, you will take advantage of all the resources around you and make the best from all of them.
In fact, when you are passionate, you will always consider your resources and determine whether they are sufficient enough to enable you to reach set goals and objectives. Which brings us to the next step.
Determined Individuals Set Goals and Objectives
Goals and objectives are extremely important when it comes to the realization of your goals and dreams. Not having these objectives is like walking without a torch on a dark path. How else will you know that you’re in the right direction?
If you’re passionate about what you do, it’s a given that you will have some objectives and goals that you would like to meet.
