This News Host Quit Her Job When She Found Out that Her Male Coworker is Paid Double Her Salary

Catt Sadler had been part of E! News as an entertainment newscaster for 12 years until she discovered that her male co-worker Jason Kennedy, whom she had co-hosted the show with, was being paid double her salary. In a lengthy and emotional post on her personal blog, 43-year-old Sadler announced that she no longer wanted to be part of a network that promoted wage gap between male and female employees.

Catt Sadler was born and raised in Martinsville, a small town in Indiana where people never really got the chance to appear on television. When she became part of the E! Network 12 years ago, it felt like she had finally realized her life-long dream – but success didn’t come easy for this talented entertainment host. In the initial years of her career in the industry, she worked as a reporter for KNTV network in California and later went on to co-host a morning show on WXIN Indianapolis as well as Hoosier Lottery’s Hoosier Millionaire, America’s longest running lottery show. Sadler’s career was looking promising and in hopes of finding bigger opportunities, she moved to Los Angeles in 2006 and eventually found her dream job as a co-host on E! Entertainment’s show called The Daily 10.

Climbing the Ladder of Success

A few years later, Sadler’s career received a major boost when she co-anchored E! News with the likes of Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic. She was undoubted a favorite on the network which is why her face was almost in every show and major red carpet events like Emmys and Golden Globes. Now, Sadler says when she found out that E! had been underpaying her in comparison to her male co-host, she thought that it was extremely insulting to all the hard work she had done on the channel. In her post, she wrote that despite being a single mother of two children, she dedicated most of her time to her job and the network instead of being with her family. Under such circumstances, the network’s actions made her feel extremely small and undervalued.

While pursuing her dream of becoming a successful news reporter, Sadler fell in love with a boy named Kyle Boyd from college and the two married in 2001. However, their union wasn’t meant to last for long and they parted ways seven years later. Sadler says that one of the best gifts that life gave her was motherhood and today her two sons, Arion and Austin have grown into handsome teenagers. In her interview with Singular magazine, Sadler said that her kids are her biggest priority and being a mother is her most important job. Thankfully, motherhood doesn’t have the same stigma attached to it as it used to in the entertainment industry and women can continue to excel in their careers even after giving birth.

Gender Wage Gap Still a Serious Issue

Sadler says that even before finding out about the paycheck disparity, she had asked the network for a raise on several occasions but had been denied. In her farewell post, she explained that after she was told that her co-host Jason Kennedy had been making significantly more money, it became impossible for her to ‘operate with integrity’. Nevertheless, Sadler looks back at her time spent at E! with pride, saying that she has nothing but respect and love for her former coworkers, whom she has gotten extremely close with over the past decade.

Her time at the network had been filled with incredible experiences and she couldn’t be more thankful for the amazing job that she had; however, it is now time for her to move on to bigger things. She also added that she had no hard feelings towards Kennedy and the two would continue to be on great terms ever after her departure from the network. Kennedy also took it to twitter to write an emotional farewell message for his close friend saying that he will really miss her on the show.

E! representatives have made a statement in the wake of Sadler’s resignation saying that the network strives to give its employees fair compensation according to their roles and that they wish Sadler all the best for her future. Women across different professions are beginning to speak up on the serious issue of gender wage gap and as the battle for equal pay continues to wage in Hollywood, Sadler’s resignation mean one thing only – enough is enough.
